Domaine de Fondreche
"reminded me of Jean Louis Chave's Hermitage... a sensational wine. Put this in a brown bag at your next northern Rhone tasting and shock your friends." - Jeb Dunnuck
"Fondreche is the reference point for what can be done in the Cotes du Ventoux. This is a source of sensational wines that still sell for incredibly fair prices, and virtually every one of these selections proves that you don’t have to drink luxury-priced Bordeaux, Burgundy, or Napa Cabernets to experience the multiple joys of wine.” - Robert Parker
The up and coming Cotes du Ventoux appellation is a sub-region of Southern Rhone.
Situated on the foothills of Mount Ventoux, the 38 hectare vineyard of Domaine de Fondrèche covers three sites in three communes: Marzan, Mormoiron and Saint Pierre de Vassols. In Mazan, the historic terroir of the Domaine, on the plateau with hyper stoney soil on gravel limestone is where they produce red wines exclusively, whilst in Saint Pierre de Vassols and Mormoiron, they have sandy soil as well as limestone rich soil. The sandy soils are used for the production of rosé and the limestone soils here are used for the production of white wines.
Young winemaker Sébastien Vincenti, apprenticed under Andre Brunel and has been inspired by such famous winemakers as Didier Dagueneau, Yvon Metras, and Marcel Lapierre. Sébastien has been a strong advocate of sustainability, and his ethic feeds into all aspects of his winemaking. In addition to converting the domaine to certified organic farming, he also takes this further and incorporates biodynamic principles into the vineyard management.
