"Vincent Paris is based in the Northern Rhone appellation of Cornas, and makes some of the region’s finest wines: beautifully brawny, deliciously dark. He also farms a 1.5 hectare patch of syrah vines in nearby St Joseph, which tends to produce more translucent, peppery perfumed expressions of the grape than Cornas does. The 2017 vintage was a great one in the Northern Rhone, and all Paris’ red wines are particularly good, but I was seduced by Les Cotes, with its dark curranty fruit and rippling, sappy, spicy energy."
