This is a terrific entry-level Barolo, do yourself a favour, you can't go wrong at $59!
I Vini di Veronelli - 3 stars
Gambero Rosso - 2 red glasses
Vini buoni d’Italia - 3 stars
‘’An iron hand in a velvet glove’’, ‘’vibrant and energetic’’, writes Wine Spectator about this wine from the iconic commune of Serralunga d'Alba. But perhaps more tellingly, the Italian wine press have all given this the thumbs up - when the Italians say it's good, you know it must be good and when we decrease the price to make it one of the most affordable Barolo in Australia, I reckon this becomes one compelling offer.
This long-keeping wine will breeze through the next decade effortlessly. It's a Barolo with a classic bouquet coming from the vine variety and the soil: hints of withered rose, undergrowth, prunes, liquorice and spices. A bright ruby red colour with an orange rim, fresh wine with a tart component and tannins sustaining a good structure. The aromas are elegant, with a good intensity. The fruit is sweet, with more evolved sensations echoing tobacco and dried herbs.
Text book Barolo at a price rarely seen in Australia, what more could you want to start the year?
