Tormaresca is owned by famous Tuscan wine family Antinori. As many wine lover's know too well this family only understands one approach to business - 100% devotion to quality. 100% Chardonnay is relatively rare from Puglia but this is a great example.
One of two single vineyard wines from Pieropan. A polar opposite to the Calvarino as the grapes are picked when very ripe, often as late as the end of October, giving tremendous complexity and aromatic qualities to the wine. It also sees large old oak.
One of two single vineyard wines from Pieropan. The 'Calvarino' has 30% Trebbiano in the mix, sees no oak and is nearly always tight and minerally. Average vine age 30 - 60 years.
"Deep and dark, plenty of blood plum and cherry, spice, new leather, sage and the like. Medium-bodied, ample fruit - it's really thick and meaty.......Excellent...." 93 points Gary Walsh WineFront
The flag-bearing red wine of the Alto Adige region. Expect plenty of spicy, mineral, dark cherry, bitter chocolate and sap notes on the complex and driven palate. Imagine a dark, inky Beaujolais and you'll be coming close to the style on offer here.
A classic Northern Italian white blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Bianco......indeed probably my favourite white blend style of all time. All fruit is sourced from vineyards located at 448m altitude, thus the name.
Sourced from a parcel of old vines in Meruzzano as well as high quality younger fruit from 3 Barbaresco cru sites: Ovello, Ronchi and Cottà. Very good value when considering the vineyard sources.
This is a single vineyard wine sourced from the Barbaresco area. The vines are 30-40-years-old and the winery commits to low yields; of course both factors help create a level on intensity you don't often find in the style.
Another long-time Piedmonte favourite of mine. Has always been a 'junior burger' priced wine but carries itself nicely as a proper serious Nebbiolo. Having dropped the Barbera from the blend, the wine is now a 95% Nebbiolo and 5% Cabernet Franc mix.
Girlan's Pinot Bianco comes from handpicked fruit grown on Alto Adige's mineral-rich hillsides of Cornaiano, at altitudes ranging from 450 to 500 metres above sea level.
Wonderful floral and aromatic bouquet of white flowers, ripe pear and apple. In the mouth it has lovely savoury fruit complexity and structure with pristine purity of citrus and lip smacking lime and mineral freshness.
