Hi Folks, at European Wine Store, we're so fortunate to try new wines nearly every day, be it new vintages or new releases, but often the most pleasure we get is when we fine those delicious hidden gems from relatively unknown regions and varietals that are normally reserved for the locals!  A great example is the 2018 Bodegas Ponce Clos Lojen Viñas Viejas Bobal from Manchuela in Castile La Mancha (Central Spain).  Produced from 100% Bobal on 55 year old vines, this is highlighted by aromas of juicy blackberry and boysenberries. A smooth, medium bodied red with a hints of spice, mineral and earthy notes. It has a nice minerally acid that holds this well-structured wine together. Complete with a clean and fresh finish. Three of our favourite wine scribes Luis Gutierrez, Eric Asimov and James Suckling have described this in hush tones as a ''Champion'', ''Think of a Morgon Cru from Beaujolais and ''Very good Value for Money.''

''The primary fruit, such as the raspberries and strawberries are really appealing, but there’s also some more complex fresh herb and citrus. Then comes a medium-bodied and pointed palate, where the tannins are edgy and the acidity very driven and tangy.'' 92 Points, James Suckling

''It's pure and easy to drink from a cool and fresh year. The palate is balanced, with a stony texture. It's an easy but mineral red think a Morgon cru from granite soils. Very good value for the money." 91 Points, Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate Magazine

''Its champions like Bodegas Ponce have demonstrated how good Bobal can be when grown and made with care. Clos Lojen is lively and fresh with earthy & red berry flavors.'' Eric Asimov, New York Times

Manchuela is the spiritual home of the Bobal grape, where it maintains acidity, even in the warm, arid climate. Clos Lojen is a pure and fresh 100% Bobal from limestone soils.
