''You could mistake this highly structured wine for a Côte de Nuits 1er Cru. It starts off quite sleek, but then the minerality and the finely etched dry tannins charge through on the long finish. Long aging potential." 94 Points, James Suckling
''This is more serious and concentrated than Faiveley's La Framboisière bottling - as you'd expect given its premier cru status. It's perfumed and alluring, all rose petal and summer berries, with some underlying grip from 25% new wood. There’s plenty of texture, with fine-grained tannins and a balanced finish.'' 93 Points, Tim Atkin, Decanter Magazine
''Aromas of licorice, cassis, dark berries fruits and subtle spices preface Faiveley's 2017 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos du Roy, a medium to full-bodied, satiny-textured and attractively layered wine that's deeper and more reserved than the Clos des Myglands, meriting a couple of years' bottle age.'' 92 Points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate Magazine
This small parcel, known as a 'clos', formerly belonged to the Kings of France. It is considered the best of the appellation's parcels and was purchased by the Faiveley family in 1971.
