"Personality plus. It’s smoky, pine forest, spice and black cherry. It’s bright, distinctly ‘mineral’, quite bony, fine emery board tannin, distinctly smoky and savoury, with a blood orange and dried herb tang to the finish. Like this, but you have to be wired a certain way, perhaps." 92 Points, Gary Walsh.  The Wine Front

"Hanspeter Ziereisen is a highly unusual German winemaker. He is constantly experimenting, often on the wild, natural side... Ziereisen is also a highly successful maker of pinot noir (spätburgunder). Fruit thinning is a tedious and expensive business, but particularly important in cool climates... It’s one of the reasons he makes great pinot."   James Halliday, The Australian

Top 20 German Wine Makers - Gault & Millau (The Gault Millau WeinGuide Deutschland 2019 contains the 1000 best German wine makers, of which only 20 producers received 5/5 grapes)

Of course, Burgundy is the homeland of pinot noir, but consider the region where these two wines come from correspond to the conditions of Burgundy and many of the methods used in Burgundy are also used by Ziereisen.   If you haven't tried German pinot noir, then you can expect something more savoury and “Burgundian”, especially compared to many Australian Pinot Noirs.
